About how much would it cost to have a calligrapher address 100 wedding invitations (front only, no return)? I’m just looking for a ballpark figure.
I should have specified – someone asked my mom to do theirs, and she wants to know what is reasonable to charge. She did mine for free 🙂

$5 an invitation? Geez, that’s outrageous! It’s much cheaper to find someone locally who does calligraphy than to go with one of the internet companies that obviously scams people. ($5 an invite just amazes me. I wouldn’t want to pay that either!)

I’m paying $225 for 150 invitations (outside AND inside envelopes). It works out to be $1.50 per invitation.

I have no idea on what kind of wedding you can get for how much so I just was wondering how much did yours cost from start to finish? What kind of wedding was it? Like where was it how much did you you spend on flowers, dresses, and the location? Did you pay more then you budgeted? Thanks for any info!

i have one brother and his wife who spent about $10000 when all was said and done

my other brother and his wife spent about $5000 and it was just as pretty/as much fun

mine is still in the planning stages but so far it looks like we are going to end up somewhere around $5000

My fiance and I have been engaged for a while, but every time we try to set back money for a wedding to start planning, something comes up. Car tags, new tires, a fire, etc. So we’ve decided to just try and put together a small wedding with just family and close friends. I am really not into a formal wedding setting, so the setting will likely be my in laws lovely wooden deck in their backyard, or my parents yard under large oak trees. Any ideas are welcome, although i’m not really into the whole luau theme. Thank you!

Hello hun, A great Idea would be somewhat of a " candle light garden " theme. Litterally its as simple as it sounds. Lots of candles everywhere even flat round candles sitting on low surfaces to regular candles on tall candle sticks to floating candles in water which in your case pretty glass bowels filled with water and floating candles or water lilies. Since it is an outdoor wedding I suggest a wedding tent incase of rain. Your local rental store should have it inexpensively. If you can, try and find wisteria vines that still have blooming flowers on them and decorate the deck or where ever you may see suit. Or if your willing to pay the money, buy flowers from your local florist.

If you have it at your parents you can buy white lights and thread them through the tree and it should look wonderful. A cute thing that a lot of people do is buy a lot of disposable cameras and let the take pictures of the wedding. Are you looking for more activity ideas or decorating ideas?

I wish you the best with your wedding hun and a lifetime full of happiness in your marriage.

Just wondering how much your guys weddings cost? Also, what state are you in? And did you pay for the whole thing or did Brides parents or Grooms parents help?
Just curious to see how other people did things…..

We live in Ohio. Ours was about 11,000 but that includes an open, bar sit down dinner, hall, flowers, photographer, limo, d.j. and cake. We had a total of 150 on our guest list.

My parents paid for the hall, and my wedding dress. My husbands parents paid for the open bar and the rehearsal dinner. My husband and I paid for the d.j., the cake, limo, flowers, and the photographer.

I just got engaged and I want to start planning my wedding. I cant afford a wedding planner and I dont even know where to start! I just want to know how much an average wedding would cost. Not too big but not a small backyard wedding either.

It can cost whatever you want it to – literally. Depends on your area, etc. It’s best for you and your guy to figure out how much the two of you can afford to spend, and how much you will be saving before the wedding. Then, once you have a ballpark figure, you work on the guest list – and move on from there.

I know it depends on the area. but i’m trying to get a general idea for budget.

The average wedding bouquet is between $75 and $150. Don’t know about the rest of the stuff, but this is for real flowers.

It would help if you broke it down into dress cost, cake cost, etc, as well. I have NO idea what a reasonable amount of money to spend on a wedding is. Also, if plane tickets are needed for family members, do I pay for them, or do the family members? I have no idea where to begin, and I’m so nervous!!!

Thanks in advance!!

(PS… I’m the bride… haha)

Average cost of a wedding is 20K…which makes me twitch…honestly My wedding will cost 5k… thats it…and thats spending 2,500 on food… If you’re looking to save money… Many ideas…
check out ANY wedding checklists on google search, look through as many as possible, read up, decide whats just needed….the important things…
Start at the beginning…
Guest List?
Where? Locations…how many people will be able to fit?
what colors?
theme?
flowers?
Invitations, RSVP’s, Reception Cards, Thank you notes and all the envelopes…(this can get expensive, the one I liked ended up at about $600 for all of this…I dont think so, so I used GIMP (design program)
and made my own, EXACTLY what I wanted with the pattern I loved…$140 to get it all printed and envelopes for them that fit perfectly)
The point is to find out whats important and what you just cant live without, make it, or subtract elsewhere where you dont care…for me it was the music and an $800 photographer…I know someone…)

Heres the list I pulled off a site for this question:

Ceremony (Location fee, Officiant Fee, Marriage License, and Musician fee)— 3% of total budget
Reception(Location fee, Food, Drinks, Rentals, cake, favors-for guests)— 48%
Attire(Dress, shoes veil, jewelry, hair and make up, tuxedo, shoes, tie or bow, cufflinks and studs)— 10%
Rings (For the both of you, engraved)—3%
Flowers(Ceremony, Bouquets,corsages, centerpieces)—8%
Music(Band/ DJ/ Musicians/ Sound System)—8%
Photographer(Photographer fee and additional prints)–12%
Transportation( Limo? Guests? Shuttle?)–2%
Stationary(Invitations& envelopes, Response card & envelopes, thank you cards & envelopes, reception cards-seating- postage, and guestbook)—-3%
Gifts(Parents, eachother, and wedding party)—3%

This is basically made for a 20,000$ wedding but its a good eye opener, and helpful to see where you can cut from and where you and spend what you want..

CAKES ARE EXPENSIVE,($300-$1000+) if you wanna save some money, dont tell them its a wedding cake!!! family is expected to pay their own way as far as I know, you can get the hotels in bulk (Get all at once) this will bring down the cost for them, but you are expected to give them welcome gifts…fruit basket or something

Bridesmaids are also expected to pay for their own dresses… if they cant them I’d suggest offering a little help to them…

WOW I hope this helps, my fingers hurt…

and if this isnt enough honestly read through some postings and forums, alot of people ask these questions(Only reason I have a clue spent the last 2 days looking and reading) and It paid off…

My fiancé and I are planning to get married in June 2010 in Oxford. We have recently graduated from university and don’t have much money. We are planning to have a very small wedding with about 25 guests and don’t mind having a religious ceremony. I have already bought my dress second hand for only £100. We would like to spend as little as possible. Can you please give us some ideas for a cost effective wedding in Oxford.

Make your own invites, boquet and decorations.
Buy a second hand veil and tiara.
Get bridesmaid dresses in the January sales from places like Monsoon or Coast (I saved loads doing this).
Get shoes in the January sales.
Negotiate the best deals on food whether going to a restaurant or having caterers.
Make your own cupcake wedding cake.
Don’t forget to give notice (and include the priest/registrar costs in your budget which is around £440 for me!)

Just do as much as you can yourself and drag family and friends into helping! Don’t get carried away with the spend £20,000 on one day crowd whose weddings all look exactly the same anyway!! (and I graduated a 2 years ago so my student loan is more important to pay off then wedding debts!).

Good luck! I’m getting married July 2010 and also trying to have a sensible budget!

For a young couple getting married with not much financial help from family how much would a wedding cost? At the least?

It depends what you have in mind, and what things you are willing to do yourself. Dinner is the biggest cost. If you can find ways around that, just a cake reception, or only very close family invited to the dinner, a buffet bc they are a bit cheaper. If your able to talk prices down thats also a plus. Most times people are willing to go down. Instead of ordering things at a chain store, shop at independantly owned ones, they are more willing to help you out.
