My boyfriend proposed last week, but he was just sent home from a dishonorable discharge from the marines and he most likely won’t be able to find a good job any time soon. And I’m young and my family doesn’t really have a lot of money. It’s ashame that the brides family is supposed to pay for the wedding lol. I just want a nice traditional wedding.Oh yeah, waiting isn’t an option I’m so in love. So don’t give me that b.s. lol

Everything depends on what "normal" means to you.

Here’s what it means to me:

The ceremony is performed in the church that the bride regularly attends, by the regular vicar: COST — $0.

The regular organist plays the music at the ceremony and receives an honorarium: COST — $200

The reception is held in the Church Hall and Church Gardens: COST — $200 (typically just the caretaker’s fee for cleanup afterward)

The reception consists of tea and punch, sparkling wine, small finger-sandwiches, petits fours and wedding cake: COST — $500 (excluding wedding cake) and served on the church china. Wineglasses are rented: COST: $100

The cake is baked by the bride’s family, and professionally decorated: COST — $250

The Bride’s mother makes the wedding dress, or it is made by a local couturiere COST — $400

The Groom chooses and provides flowers for the mothers and grandmothers, the bride’s bouquet, and the boutonnières. The Bride’s family provides flowers for the altar and the bridesmaid. Cut flowers are used for decorating the hall. COST $300

A studio photograph is made of the Bride, and two or three staged photographs are taken immediately after the ceremony. COST $200

Total cost, just over $2000. Forgo the flowers and photographs, simplify the dress, have the cake decorated at home, and you can get it down to just over $1000.

A wedding can cost $1000 up to $100,000, it really depends on your taste and whether you are willing to compromise and stick to a budget.

If your attitude towards your wedding is "I’m the bride, I should get whatever I want" than you are probably looking at the $20,000+ range. It can cost as much or as little as you want.

My advice: get a financial plan in order. Figure out how much/little your and his parents can help, and how much you two will make over the next year (if it takes that long to plan it). Then set a certain amount aside each month in a separate account and that’s your wedding fund. Just be sure to stick to what you can afford. Starting your marriage in debt is not a positive way to start your new life together.

Well, I’m sort of in the same boat. My real dad(who could afford to pay for my wedding) isn’t in my life and my step dad can’t afford it. We are getting married in May so we don’t have to wait too long but we will have time to save a little each month and we will have our tax returns to work with. We are cutting some of the major expenses by asking family to help. Like, our photographer is his neice and a lady I work with is making our cake for free since it’s her first wedding. Try that. Also, instead of buying boquets for my bridesmaids, I’m making them. The only real one will be mine. And we are buying little things at a time. Just try that and see what you come up with. Also, you’d be surprised at how many people will want to help.

It all depends on how many people and what you want. I had a beautiful wedding for a little over a thousand. My mom and I made most of the decorations our selves. We found really pretty candle la bras at the dollar store and wrapped fake flowers also from the dollar store around them. We used them for the center pieces for all the tables. The favors were heart shaped ceramic boxes that we filled with candy. They were 3 for a dollar. My mom also made the cake and she did the flower arrangements which saved as a lot of money. We bought the flowers from Sam’s club. I had my aunt take the photos which they turned out great and my uncle video taped the whole thing. We did get it catered but you could make the food yourselves which would save a lot of money as well. So the more you do yourself the less it will cost.

The average cost of a traditional style wedding in the US (from Maine to California) costs $20,000 – $25,000 for one hundred people. That figure includes wedding invitations . . wedding rings . . gowns . . bouquets . . a nice dinner (reception) with friends and family members . . a three tiered wedding cake . . an album of wedding photographs . . and entertainment (disc jockey or band).

If you wish to get married "on a budget" . . here’s some ideas

The most economical place to get married is "your own backyard" or someone else’s back yard. And if that doesn’t work try a community park, a city park, a county park or a state park. These parks are usually well maintained . . have clean restrooms . . picturesque settings . . and picnic facilities or pavilions.

Only have a Maid of Honor and a Best Man.

Get married in the morning and then follow the ceremony with brunch or breakfast. Breakfast is always less expensive than lunch or dinner.

Please keep this in mind before you make any wedding plans . . Yahoo Answers is full of "wedding regrets." And most of those regrets start with the sentence, "I got married too young."

Go to City Hall, get married , take close friends and family out to dinner. You’re looking at like $3000 after all is said and done.

The over all cost usually depends on things like how many guests are invitied, what sort of wedding you are having, what sort of food you are having…etc. We are having an outdoor civil ceremony and a full 3 course sit down reception with 80 people. Cost for us is $10,000 to $12,000.

Okay… So you want to get married and don’tt have allot of Money? I have been in the same situation for the last four months and my wedding is about seven days away. First off take a deep breath and put on your bargain shopping abilities. I am having a full meal and reception at my wedding with the cost totalling about $1500 for the whole thing (250 guests) It is possible you just have to be willing to do allot of hard work and take the gifts that people offer. For example, his mother took care of the ceremony and mine took care of the reception. A wedding can cost as much or as little as you want it to. A tip on dress shopping is to go on ebay. I got my wedding dress for $60 and that included the shipping. The rings can be ebayed as well (we saved hundreds) or see if someone in his family has heirloom rings. It is awesome to wear an old piece. And I totally understand the no waiting thing. I am young, a college student, and I honestly cannot see my life without my fiance… Dont let anyone tell you different. Just remember it is your day and dont accept less than the best!

    Congratulations

    -Sarah

I’m not sure where you live but you can go to resort places and have a small intimate wedding for under $2,000 with gas etc. I am in california and thought I had to get married 3 years ago and found some really great packages. Well I realized we weren’t ready and I finished college and now have an awesome job and we are getting married and buying a house. The bottom line is you can look for packages like that or plan your wedding in an off season or on a Sunday and it will be cheaper because it is not a popular time to get married. Waiting is not B.S it may not be for you and that’s fine but I am for one am so glad I did.
