What is the cost of the average wedding dress?
12 Apr 2010
I’m not talking about something cheap and standard, but a nice and pretty dress that doesn’t cost a million dollars. What is the average price of a nice wedding dress?
Depends on your definition of "nice."
Some brides are happy with gowns from Target or JC Penney. Some brides find gowns at the David’s $99 sale. Still others borrow a gown from a relative or friend.
Prices can go from zero (the borrowed gowns) on up to designer gowns costing thousands.
So it all depends on your definition of "nice."
I found this site interesting.

2010 Apr 13 1If you catch them on sale you can generally get a pretty good deal. You are looking at somewhere between $800 – $5000 depending on what all you want.

2010 Apr 13 3If you are looking to have a fab dress for your day and would like to spend as little as possible. Consider going to a consignment shop that specializes in just bridal wear. Usually a wedding dress is worn once and, most consignment shop put a limit on their dresses. They can only be two years old. Look in the your yellow pages or at http://www.yellowpages.com for such a shop.

2010 Apr 13 4I found dresses UNUSED at a resale shop, because the wedding gown shop didn’t sale them. They are like 1/2 half the sale price too. And their nice. Now I don’t know if a resale shop around you does this sort of thing, but go check it out.
I’m not wanting to spend over 600 dollars. And I know I can find a great dress at that price if I find it on sale!

2010 Apr 13 6$2500 to rent, and $4000 to buy would be a safe figure. Based on my surveys.

2010 Apr 13 7Nice differs for everyone. I bought mine at David’s and it is lovely. I have to admit I thought I was only going to find cheap things there and they have some nice dresses. I paid $485 on sale. Don’t buy veil there, though.
If you want something designer, you will pay more…you can find dresses at outlet stores or consignment shops.
I couldn’t justify spending that much on a wedding dress. Instead, we are having a nice sit down meal with open bar for our guests.

2010 Apr 13 9$800-1000, at least at a local beautique, if there is not a sale, if there is a sale, then maybe $400. I got an amazing dress for $750 (Casablanca Bridal’s 2005 Cinderella Dress). I was married in 2007, so the style was older, but the dress had never been worn–I fell in love with it.

2010 Apr 13 10Because people with lots of money and with little money all get married, there are dresses in a lot of price ranges. I have a friend who’s wife bought a dress as a resale shop for $8, and I’ve seen dresses at Barney’s in NYC for over $10,000.
I just read somewhere that you should spend 10 times what you would on a good handbag. If you buy purses that cost $40, then $400. $200 purse = $2000. Not a bad idea.

2010 Apr 13 11I model wedding gowns that usually average at about $2800 to $3500. They’re nice, beautiful, elegant gowns but you only get to wear it once.

2010 Apr 13 12I went to an expensive shop in town and tried on $5000 dresses. Then, I went to David’s and put on a $250 dress that blew away the expensive dresses. It was much more flattering and suited me better. It’s not silk with real pearls- but it’s damn gorgeous!!!
