How much should an average wedding cost?
22 Feb 2010
The average cost of a wedding is about $25,000–you have to take into consideration this is an average number that takes into account the WHOLE country. With that in mind, the coasts usually have more expensive weddings than some of the the rest of the country.
A wedding though is as expensive as you make it.

2010 Feb 23 2Depending on how many people you invite and how elaborate you make it. There really isn’t an average because everybodies expectations are so different.

2010 Feb 23 4Use this file to figure out your budget, change the fields accordingly but first look at everything: http://www.vertex42.com/Links/go.php?url=file-weddingbudget
But it all depends on how much you’re willing to compromise on… if you’re big on roses and want a huge wedding then it’ll cost you more to feed than ever… if you’re big on designer gowns then it’ll be more.
For 100 people, we’ve budgeted $10,000 but I’m aiming for 7 and so far it’s working! 🙂

2010 Feb 23 5I’ve heard that the average wedding costs around $25,000.
If that seems steep for you, you can still make your wedding beautiful and special without starting off your life in debt. My wedding cost under $8,000 and it was the most perfect, beautiful, wonderful day of my life.
NETWORK! Find people you know that offer wedding services. (catering, flowers, photographers…) Go to bridal shows and get coupons off for services, get married in the off season when vendors are not in high demand – there are a lot of ways to bring down this cost.

2010 Feb 23 7The average is about $28,000. Ive seen budgets as low at $1,000 (mine), and Ive been to a wedding that cost close to $60,000 (cousins). So it really does depend your budget.
good luck to you. 🙂

2010 Feb 23 8No offense….. but that’s kind of a stupid question. A wedding is one day. And you don’t have to spend $25K to make it beautiful and memorable. And it tends to be the folks who focus more on the actual wedding than on preparing for marriage who end up with problems. Only spend as much as you need. Don’t go overboard. Years from now, it will be just another day. Use the money to buy a house or spend on your honeymoon.
My wedding costs:
– Dress– gift from my mom’s boss– $900
-Cake– $240
-Flowers for bouquets, cake, and decorations $180
-Church decorations– my granny made some of them– gorgeous! Candleabras like $15 each. All in all, about $70.
-Reception decorations– about $200. My father in law plans corporate events and he decorated the reception. It was gorgeous.
– Food: My dad’s best friend is a caterer. He did it for free. We had shrimp coctail, vegetable platters, finger sandwiches, a chocolate fondu fountain with strawberries, bananas, marshmallows, and pretzles; sherbert punch, soft pretzles and cheese fondu, pinwheels, and I don’t remember the rest. But it was nice.
-photography– gift from my father in law: $700.
Our wedding wasn’t under a waterfall or on a beach at sunset. It cost under $3,000 all in all. My parents only paid about $700 of it. I paid $300, and the rest was "gifts" from other family members. I loved it.

2010 Feb 23 9It all depends on the choices you make and where in the country you live. Regions can vary significantly in price.
Do you want country club or VFW hall?
Do you want to feed your guests a real meal or just give them shrimp cocktail and finger sandwiches?
How many guests do you want?
What’s your feeling on open bar?
We spent around 20k ten years ago…to duplicate that in todays dollars would cost us anywhere between 30 & 40k as a best estimate.
To us it was not going overboard, it was simply what we wanted done in the manner of how we wanted our guests to be treated.
We had appetizers served by strolling waiters, full dinner, desert tables, champagne at every table, and a full open bar.
That is what is standard in our family…everyone does things differently.

2010 Feb 23 11um the first person is WAY TOO LOW! unless you are having a backyard pig roast, and then it might be more than that anyways
mine was $35000 which i would say is about average for a formal, black tie optional wedding – even with cutting some corners it only would have knocked a couple thousand off
average $20-50K

2010 Feb 23 12It all depends on what you are looking for. If you can afford to spend 50K then go for it, but if not, going into deep debt for 1 day is not worth it. You can spend between $10,000-$15,000 and still have a really nice wedding, and you can even go lower than that if your families are willing to help out. Also, the lower the guest count, the cheaper in the end. You can save money by not doing so many favors, or cutting them out completely. You can also pick flowers that are in season. Also, you can do things yourself. My wedding was 25K, and I did most of the stuff myself with my mom.
