Average Wedding cake cost for 140 people (excluding the top tier for the bride and groom)?
30 Dec 2009
I want a square cake with a few layers (enough for that many people- I think 3) and I want it frosted preferably in butter cream with probably a butter cream filling. Nothing too exquisite but tastes good and looks nice.
I just want to know what an average cost would be. I live in central NJ.
Thank You
seriously, i might get thumbs down for this, but you should really check out walmart’s cakes. we had to have 2 different wedding parties for families far apart and went with them due to price….but the cake was SO delicious. I have never been so impressed with Walmart’s cakes (in 2 different locations). The 3 teired cakes were only $130 and they looked amazing. i strongly encourage you to check them out if you are not picky about themes and stuff.

2009 Dec 31 2I agree with the former poster. Check out Walmart and popular supermarkets for a cake. You don’t have to buy the pricey stuff at the pastry stores. Congrats on your nuptials!

2009 Dec 31 3Don’t get a Walmart cake. That’s just tacky.

2009 Dec 31 4Mine was 350 I had 150 guests, it was from a (small) bakery (Sweets to you, by Ginger) and each layer was filled. Buttercream icing, vanilla filled with fresh strawberry, chocolate filled with fresh rasberry, my top layer was 7 layer rum cake. Usually it is between 2-4 dollars a slice so 280-560
I am close to you, northern DE

2009 Dec 31 5Go to a smaller bakery, not a chain. Or ask around and find out if someone in your circle bakes (and has talent!).
Present a picture of what you want with specific colors and dimensions and the amount you want to feed. An experienced baker will be able to help.

2009 Dec 31 6I’m in the Jersey Shore area too.
Most of the catering halls I went to see all included a wedding cake in the price per head. No need to buy one separately.
If you are buying food individually you will need to buy a wedding cake. I guess just go to a bakery and ask them how much. Stop and Shop makes them too. I know how difficult it can be to get to Wal-mart (The closest one to me is in Old Bridge, 25 minutes away– and no bakery anyhow.)

2009 Dec 31 7I have a guest list of about 350 people, I got a 4tier circle cake, butter cream frosting and filling, red velvet cake, also I needed one sheet cake to go with it and my total was $735 in Wisconsin. I did go to a smaller bakery (not walmart) and did a tasting, and it was amazing.. I’m guessing the cake for you would cost about $300? Just a guess. Look around! Also my place doesn’t make you save the top tier for your first anniversary, she bakes you a fresh one 🙂 It’s nice. Congrats!
