I want to do some research on how much a wedding cost. I would love to get married Summer 2010 but that may not be enough time to save up. Could you give me some ideas of how much your weddings cost and where you had them?
Our wedding is on April 17th, 2009 and we are expecting it to cost around $25,000, not including $10-$12K on our honeymoon that we are paying for ourselves. We are very lucky in that my parents want to pay for the majority of wedding expenses (we are paying for our own rings, invites, and DJ but they are pretty much footing the bill for everything else), which allows us to have the wedding of our dreams and not start married life in debt. Our wedding will have about 80-90 guests, it is more important to us to spend the same amount of money on fewer guests so that the wedding could be nicer and more elegant, rather than spreading the same budget out on 150-200 guests.
Also, I live in NYC metro area, which is super expensive compared to the rest of the country.
The average wedding in the US today is about $20,000.
I think you can definitely pull off a nice wedding by summer 2010, you have over a year and a half to plan! Don’t put it off longer, you will just be really antsy anticipating a wedding that’s so far away. Consider your budget and go from there: biggest way to save is cut the guest list, that way you can still afford the beautiful wedding you deserve.
Good luck and congratulations!

2009 Oct 13 5My wedding was cheap. We got married in a beautiful park (free) in my 100 dollar wedding dress. Nice too! Then my aunt held a small party in her house (about 40 ppl) and my family helped with food. If I had to change anythign about my wedding day, I’d have held the party in a bigger spot.. But thats about it.

2009 Oct 13 6I don’t know what the average is but 8 years ago I spent $4000.00 on our wedding in Lake Tahoe, California, we had 50 guests. We also had our reception dinner on a big boat.
You shouldn’t care what the average is, just plan a beautiful wedding that you can afford. You have plenty of time to price out what you want and save the money.

2009 Oct 13 10it costs as much as you want to spend.
ours cost me over $50,000 including rings ans the honeymoon. money well spent I say, but to me the money spent is not important, even if it only cost me $50 it would still have been the best day of my life!

2009 Oct 13 11Ours cost a total of about £2000.
Rings – £250
Photographer – £450
Reception – £110 inc the DJ
Venue and fees including paying for my certificates to get married in another country – £500
Wedding dress/Suit/Brides maids dress – £150
Invitations (we made our self) – £20
Buffet – £100 (made our self)
Decorations – £100
3 Tier Cake – £20 (made ourselves)
Car – Priceless (Jaguar – belongs to uncle was he was the driver)
And a few other bits and bobs. And it was great! Weddings dont have to cost alot aslong as you put in the effort. Let someone else do all the work and it will cost you an arm and a leg and you could end up paying for it for years to come.

2009 Oct 13 12Mine was around $8,000. I had 100 people, an afternoon wedding so I didn’t have to feed them a full meal. Heavy appetizers and cake at the reception. No dancing, no band. I got married in Texas. Wouldn’t change a thing.
Do what you can afford. There are many ways to save money.

2009 Oct 13 13ok well im a cypriot and i live in the uk, our weddings like many other cultures tend to be a little big and over the top.
i think in the end the wedding cost near the £30,000 mark, which is relatively cheap compared to some.
this is because you tend to have about 600 guests. all the cypriot community and work friends etc. you pay for the venue, a sit down 4 course meal, allll the alcohol which usually consists of wines, beers, spirits and soft drinks.the entertainment and all the other things like flowers, bridesmaid dresses etc etc.
weddings are very expensive and if i had the chance again i would have much rather taken a few choice friends and family abroad somewhere and just tied the knot that way, i thinks its a huge waste of money but i know our parents wanted to do this for us.
shop around for things like venue, especially florists they can cost so much money. you could hire your partners suit. actually most things are available to hire now. you could have a buffett for the after party which will be cheaper than a meal.
can u give us a few more details about yourself. then maybe we can offer some more help.
it also depends where u live. like are u in the uk. wedding dresses in most bridal shops cost around £500 upwards. thats not including tiaras shoes veils.
like i said give us some more info. bottom line is weddings can be expensive.

2009 Oct 13 15The website http://www.costofwedding.com can give you localized information.
What YOUR wedding will cost depends upon many factors including:
general costs in your area
where you want to have it ( a 5-star hotel is different from a catering hall which is different from the local Elks lodge)
food/meal being served
beverages served (alcohol is expensive!)
how many guests you will have.
I am in Central PA and my wedding will cost $18,000 for a church ceremony, catering hall buffet dinner reception with full open bar for 150 people.

2009 Oct 13 16My first wedding was about 3000 dollars. My Mom and I did all the planning ourselves. If my Aunt wouldn’t have made my cake and my friend did the flowers probably another 1000-1500. So, 5000 for it all…
You can have a really nice wedding on a tight budget.. I have sooooo many ideas…. there are resources now that have cheaper but still really nice decorations and what have you…
It just all depends on what you want in your wedding and how formal you want it to be.
I’m getting married in the fall of 09 and am starting to plan my wedding now. My email is [email protected] if u wld like talk about ideas…

2009 Oct 13 17$30,000 for 130 guests (Rehearsal Dinner, wedding, and Sunday brunch)…it was definitely more than we should have paid, but it was beautiful and really fun.
I put the most amount of money into my photographs at $5000 dollars for the package and I couldn’t be happier with my pictures. I’ve been married 3 years and I still look at my album regularly.

2009 Oct 13 19Well,lets see i got married in May of 97 and started planning it in jan.I bought a bridal magazine & i ordered my invitations from that.I made all my flowers, bought all my decorations, spent 400.00 on my dress, had my sister hem it for free.Spent about 50.00 for my daughters dress,i had 2 bridesmaids & they paid for their dresses. For the guys the best man,&groomsman & my father in law paid for their tuxes,we paid for our 3 little boys tuxes husband got his for free.We had a 3 tiered cake.that cost 125.00.Then for our reception we had it at our new lodge/convention center that was built on to our casino.(We are native american)It was so cool,we were the 1st ones to have a wedding reception there and out side on their big neon marquee sign it said congratulations to us .We got 10 pictures of it.We had the casino cater our dinner for like 500.00 it was a great variety of dishes then because the casino catered our dinner they let us have the honeymoon suite for free. & we also got the banquet room for free also. For my music listened to our local radio stations weekly auction & they had a dj from the city worth 350.00 & i bid 125.00 & got it.He did a great job.We didn’t open our gifts at the reception,we had a cookout @ our friends house where we opened our gifts. For our cards I had bought a cardboard well for like 15.00 bucks & i decorated with my wedding colors and by the time we opened al the cards we had gotten about 2200.00!So i don’t think my wedding was very expensive at all but it sure was nice and memorable.

2009 Oct 13 22I just attended a wedding last week with 150 people. The cost of the wedding was under $1000 (no alcohol). My wedding (30 guests) is coming in at under $2000, although we budgeted $2,800 (includes alcohol). This is the wedding and reception only. Rings and honeymoon are seperate.
My sister’s wedding was $5,000 for 50 people. My friend’s wedding was $45,000 for 28 people.
Go to TheKnot.com where they have budget sheets. That will help you figure out an estimate for what you expect for a wedding.
